red admiral (n)

  1. A nymphalid butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) that is common in both Europe and America, has broad orange-red bands on the forewings, and feeds chiefly on nettles in the larval stage; known in some cultures to be symbols of deception, passion, or evil.
  2. Colloquial title for the well-known captain of a rebel warship. Despite being a captain, she has been deemed an “admiral” by her followers, one who won’t hesitate to spill blood in the name of revolution.
  3. A webcomic-in-progress

8 years ago, the esteemed captain of a rebel warship lost everything trying to take down a corrupt oligarch. Now she works from within, taking the political pyramid apart from the inside. As she struggles to keep her rebellion identity a secret, she forms an alliance with an intuitive neighbor, and attempts to prevent a war with an adjoining nation—the result of which could either mean repression or revolution.
